Certification
Safe Snowmobile Operator Training




We will teach you safe snowmobile operating practices, basic maintenance, and snowmobile survival techniques. Meeting and exceeding BC Workers Compensation Board and BC Snowmobile Federation Standards for safety.
Two day course, Hands on training
- Participants must meet the required proficiency to pass the course
- Participants upon completion will be Workers Compensation Board Certified, Safe Snowmobile Operators.
Basis on Safety
- Start up and shutdown of snowmobile
- Common hand signals for trail riding
- Safe stopping, quick turns, reversing, hill riding, emergency stopping, riding over obstacles
- Appropriate rider positions in various scenarios
- How to efficiently and effectively get a snowmobile unstuck.
- Loading and unloading snowmobile from trailer or truck
Basic maintenance and repair
- Familiarization with snowmobile
- Belt change
- Spark plug change
- Fluid levels
Avalanche awareness and basic survival skills
- Terrain awareness
- Safety supplies/gear
- Trip planning
Theory will be taught and then demonstrated. This will be done prior to each participant trying the task.
Part of each day will be spent riding a designated course. The other part of the day will be spent putting these skills to use in authentic snowmobiling situations.
There is a refund if the participant is not able to meet the requirements. One on one instruction will be provided to help participants complete the program successfully.
No refund and ejection from the class will result; if participants willfully ride dangerously, Alcohol and sleds do not mix.
Each day will be approximately 8 hours, with lunch and breaks. Students provide their own food and drink.
Group dinner first night at local eatery.
Students are expected to be reasonably fit and healthy. Snowmobiling is hard work done in the cold.
Participants must provide there own protective gear
- Helmet
- Gloves
- Goggles
- Snow boots
- Snow pants, and Jacket
- backpack (extra glove, fleece, sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat, lunch, drinks and snack)
- Participants will be waiting, while fellow participants complete their assignments, this can be boring and cold. Bring extra clothing.
