Students need to provide:

  • Safety Gear: gloves, water/wind proof jacket and pants, snow boots, hat, backpack helmet and goggles if they have them)
  • Lunch, Snack and liquids (no squishy or breakable items)

Day 1

  • Training pkg
  • Recommended survival gear
  • Safe transport and securing of snowmobiles
  • Local snowmobile laws and regulations (BC)
  • Preventing the most common injures
  • Familiarization with snowmobile
  • Controls and safety equipment
  • Pre ride inspection
  • Basic maintence of both 2 and 4 cycle engines
  • Introduction to safe riding practices, riding positions and techniques
  • Range signals and rules
  • Recognizing dangers and avoiding them
  • Start warm-up and stopping snowmobile, including emergency shutdown
  • Starting out moving forward and backward
  • Braking and emergency braking
  • Turns and figure eights
  • Salome
  • Obstacles
  • U turns
  • Riding up over and down hills
  • Trail ride signals and proper trail etiquette

Day 2

  • Review of Day 1 skills
  • Side hilling safely
  • On trail trouble shooting and repairs
  • Survival strategies
  • Avalanche awareness/ reading the terrain
  • Trail ride to practice skill learned in the controlled riding range.
  • Written/Verbal test
  • Worksafe recognized certification based on proficiency
